The short answer

Sparklight's traditional cable TV is being replaced by Sparklight TV, an app you stream over your internet connection. Sparklight internet is not going away: Cable One still serves about 1 million customers in 24 states and is investing in faster speeds.

What is actually going away?

Cable One launched Sparklight TV, an app-based service, and said it intended to stop offering its legacy cable TV once the app reached all markets. Instead of a set-top box on coax, you watch through apps on devices such as Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, phones and browsers.

So "Sparklight cable going away" is half true. The cable TV product is being replaced. The cable network that carries your internet is staying, and it is what now delivers the TV app too.

Is Sparklight internet shutting down?

No. In its August 2026 announcements Cable One described itself as serving about 1 million residential and business customers across 24 states, and it appointed a new chief operating officer that month. Its quarterly filings do report subscriber losses to competition, which is common for cable companies facing fiber and 5G, but nothing points to an exit from internet service.

What does the TV change mean for you?

  • You need a supported streaming device for each TV, or a smart TV with the app.
  • Your internet does more work. Each HD stream uses bandwidth; see what speed you need and the best internet for streaming.
  • Data use goes up. Streaming TV all day adds up fast on a plan with a data allowance; check Sparklight's data caps by plan.
  • Recordings move to the cloud. Sparklight TV uses a cloud DVR instead of a box with a hard drive.

Should you keep Sparklight or switch?

If TV was your main reason to keep Sparklight, the move to an app is a good moment to compare. Streaming services such as YouTube TV or Sling run over any provider's internet. Then the question is only which internet is best at your address.

In Sparklight's largest states, FCC records show other options in many of the same towns: CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber in Idaho, C Spire and AT&T in Mississippi, and Midco in North Dakota. Our switching guide covers how to change without a day offline.

What does Sparklight internet cost on its own?

If you drop TV and keep internet, the 1 Gig plan follows a published three-year schedule:

Months
Sparklight 1 Gig price
1–12
$40/mo
13–24
$45–$55/mo, by location
25–36
$50–$75/mo, by location
Requires AutoPay and paperless billing. Equipment (modem and eero lease $0–$14.99/mo), taxes and fees extra. From our Sparklight review.

That schedule is unusually transparent. Compare it with other providers' promo-to-regular jumps in our price locks compared guide and the true cost of internet over 3 years.

How do you replace Sparklight TV?

  • Keep Sparklight TV and add a streaming device for each TV.
  • Switch to a live TV streaming service that works over any internet connection, then choose internet on its own merits.
  • Use an antenna for local channels, which costs nothing per month.

Whichever you choose, check your plan has enough speed for several streams at once and no tight data allowance.

Questions

Is Sparklight discontinuing cable TV?

Yes. Sparklight has been replacing traditional cable TV with Sparklight TV, an app-based service that streams over your internet connection.

Is Sparklight going out of business?

No. Cable One, Sparklight's parent, still serves about 1 million customers in 24 states and is publicly traded.

Do I need new equipment for Sparklight TV?

You need a supported streaming device or smart TV for each screen instead of a cable box.

Will my Sparklight internet change?

Not because of the TV change. Your internet plan continues; it now also carries the TV app.

When did Sparklight stop cable TV?

The switch to the Sparklight TV app has happened market by market rather than on a single date. Contact Sparklight for your area's timing.

Can I keep my Sparklight email after switching?

Does Sparklight TV work on Roku?

Device support has changed over time. Check Sparklight's current list of supported devices before you buy one.

Is Sparklight being sold?

We have not seen a sale announced. Cable One remains a publicly traded company and reported a leadership change in August 2026.
