In brief

Existing customers can lock their price by upgrading: Optimum offers current customers a 1 Gig upgrade with a 3-year price lock, or a 5-year lock if they also add Optimum Mobile. Without a lock, Optimum typically raises the bill by up to $15/mo a year until it reaches the standard rate.

New customers currently get a 1-year price lock, or 3 years if they add SecureWiFi+ for $10/mo. Earlier plans often had a 12-month price with increases in years two and three. Former customers who left in poor standing aren't eligible for new-customer offers.

How existing customers can lock their price

  • Upgrade to 1 Gig. Optimum offers current internet customers a 1 Gig upgrade with a 3-year price lock. Optimum says a typical upgrade adds about $15/mo to your current bill.
  • Add Optimum Mobile. Upgrading to 1 Gig (or 5 Gig where available) and keeping an Optimum Mobile line extends the lock to 5 years.
  • Bundles. Bundling internet with TV and mobile saves up to $10/mo more.

If your price just went up

Check your bill for the date your current rate started and whether it had a lock. Then call and ask to be moved to a current plan with a price lock. If Optimum offers a lower rate, ask how long it lasts and get the end date in writing. See how to negotiate a price increase.

Is an upgrade worth it?

If your bill is due to rise by $15/mo next year anyway, paying about $15/mo more now for 1 Gig with a 3-year lock costs roughly the same in year two and less in year three. If you don't need the speed and a competitor offers a lower locked price, switching may cost less. Compare options at your address with our address checker.
