Optimum deals for new vs. existing customers

Optimum's sign-up offers are for new residential customers. Existing customers can still move to a current plan, add Optimum Mobile and ask for a retention price.

In brief

New customers pay $35, $45 or $55 a month for 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps or 1 Gig with the AutoPay and paperless discount, with a 1-year price lock (3 years with SecureWiFi+). After that, prices rise by up to $15 a month a year until the standard rate. Existing customers don't get sign-up offers, but can change plans, add mobile lines and ask the retention team.

What existing customers can do

  1. Ask to move to a current plan. Current prices are often lower than what long-time customers pay after several yearly increases.
  2. Add Optimum Mobile. Mobile lines start at $25 a month and open bundle pricing.
  3. Ask the retention team. Customers report being offered lower prices when they say they're leaving. Have a competitor's price for your address ready.
  4. Pay by checking account. The AutoPay discount is $10 a month with a bank account, $5 with a debit card and nothing with a credit card.

What existing customers can't get

Optimum's sign-up promotions are for new residential customers, and former seasonal customers or accounts not in good standing don't qualify. Gift cards and new-customer price locks don't apply to existing accounts. See our Optimum review for current prices.

What to say when you call

Ask for the retention or loyalty team, not general support. Say what you pay now, what a competitor charges at your address, and ask two things: can you move to a current plan, and is there a discount to stay. Our guide to negotiating an internet price increase has the full script, and checking what else reaches your address gives you the competitor price.

Phone plans without the Optimum Mobile line

Optimum's best prices often come with an Optimum Mobile line. These prepaid phone plans work with any home internet provider.
