PRICE CUT
Starlink now starts at $55 a month
Short answer
Starlink Residential now has three plans: 100 Mbps for $55/mo, 200 Mbps for $85 and Residential Max for $130. In select areas the kit is a $0 rental instead of a purchase. Before, Starlink Residential was about $120/mo plus a hardware kit of around $349.
What changed
The earlier price (about $120/mo and a ~$349 kit) comes from our previous Starlink coverage.
Who it affects
- Rural households. Starlink was the fallback when nothing else reached you. At $55 it now competes on price with 5G home internet ($50 at T-Mobile and Verizon) and costs less than most cable promos after year one.
- Existing customers. Check whether a cheaper plan covers your usage. Starlink lists typical speeds of 80–100 Mbps on the 100 Mbps plan, 140–200 on 200 Mbps and 170–320 on Max.
- Anyone who works from home on Starlink. The 100 and 200 Mbps plans are deprioritized when the network is busy. Only Max keeps standard priority.
The catches
- The $0 rented kit is only offered in select areas, and it has to be returned if you cancel.
- Some areas add a demand surcharge, shipping and taxes.
- Where cable or fiber reaches your street, those still usually cost less per Mbps.
Business plans changed too
Starlink Business now sells Local Priority data plans: 50 GB for $55/mo, 500 GB $155, 1 TB $280 and 2 TB $530. Each includes a public IP and a service level agreement. Once priority data runs out, speeds drop to 1 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up, so the 50 GB plan works best as a backup line.
