The short answer

Verizon bought Frontier on Jan. 20, 2026. For Frontier customers, your plan, price, router and bill haven't changed. What's new is access to Verizon's Mobile + Home discount, up to $15 a month with a Verizon phone plan, and Verizon perks. Frontier still runs its own website, app and billing, and no Fios rebrand date has been announced.

What happened

Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier Communications on Jan. 20, 2026, in a deal announced in September 2024 and valued at about $20 billion. Frontier is now a wholly owned Verizon subsidiary. Together, Verizon says, Fios and Frontier fiber pass about 30 million homes and businesses across 31 states and Washington, D.C.

What has changed for Frontier customers

  • Verizon mobile discounts. Frontier Fiber customers can now get Verizon's Mobile + Home discount, up to $15 a month, when they also have a Verizon phone plan.
  • Verizon perks. Verizon says Frontier customers get access to its perks, such as discounted streaming bundles.
  • Branding. Frontier now appears as "Frontier, a Verizon company."

What hasn't changed

  • Your plan and price. Verizon says current Frontier monthly prices aren't changing because of the acquisition.
  • Your equipment. You don't need a new router.
  • Your account. Frontier still has its own website, app, billing and customer service. Your Frontier and Verizon bills stay separate.
  • Rewards and promotions. Existing Frontier deals and rewards continue.

Frontier has said plans will eventually be standardized across Verizon's territory, but it hasn't given a date. Any change to your service should come with advance notice.

Frontier vs. Fios: are they the same now?

Not yet. Both are fiber networks owned by Verizon, but they sell separate plans in separate areas. You can't order Fios at a Frontier address or the other way around. Fios has all-in pricing with taxes and fees included and a 3- or 5-year price guarantee; Frontier has its own plans and terms. Compare them in our Fios review and Frontier review.

Should Frontier customers switch their phone to Verizon?

Only if the numbers work. The up-to-$15 Mobile + Home discount helps, but compare the total: Verizon's phone plans usually cost more than prepaid brands that run on the same network, such as Visible. If you're shopping for phone and internet together as a new customer, Verizon's Verizon One plan bundles a line and home internet for $70, but it's sold with Fios, 5G Home or Home Internet Lite, not Frontier.

Frontier copper and DSL customers

Verizon and its Frontier operating companies have asked the FCC to retire copper phone service in parts of several states. If you still have Frontier DSL or a copper landline, you may get a notice. See Verizon's copper retirement: what to do.

Business customers

Frontier Business customers also get access to Verizon business mobile discounts. See our Frontier Business review.
