GearUP Booster review: does it really lower ping?
When a game booster helps, when it does nothing, and how to find out on your own connection before you pay. For privacy on public Wi-Fi, use a VPN such as NordVPN instead.
GearUP Booster can lower ping when your connection takes a long or congested route to the game server, especially on servers in another region. It does little if your route is already direct. Use the 3-day free trial on the games you play before paying.

Plans and prices
Does it work?
The results depend on your route to the server. HostProReviews measured 18% to 45% lower ping on cross-region servers but no change on same-region servers. Games Catalogue saw Rainbow Six Siege drop from 44–48 ms to 34 ms and no change in Fortnite. RankerToolAI saw no difference on an MMO whose route was already direct.
Use the free trial on the games you actually play. Note your ping with GearUP off and on, at the same time of day, for a few matches. If it doesn't drop by 10 ms or more, it isn't worth paying for.
On Wi-Fi, try an Ethernet cable before paying for a booster.
Who should try it
- Try it if you play on servers in another region, see ping spikes at night, or your ISP routes game traffic badly.
- Skip it if your ping is already low, or if the problem is Wi-Fi or a slow plan. Fix those first: see how to lower ping, the best gaming routers and the best internet for gaming.

GearUP vs. ExitLag vs. NoPing
All three are game boosters: they send game traffic over their own server routes to cut detours between you and the game server. They do the same job and each offers a free trial, so test the one that supports your games and platform. GearUP is the only one of the three with mobile apps and a console option through its HYPER Boost router. ExitLag and NoPing run on Windows PCs.
Setup on PC and console
- PC: install the app, pick your game, start the boost, then launch the game.
- Mobile: the iOS and Android apps work the same way for mobile games.
- PS5 and Xbox: consoles can’t run the app, so you need GearUP’s router or a PC sharing its connection with the console.

Alternatives to consider
- ExitLag: A similar paid game-routing service; compare it on the same trial basis.
- A wired connection: Free and often more effective than any booster for lag spikes.
- A different ISP: Fiber and cable usually have lower, steadier ping than 5G or satellite; see whether 5G is good for gaming.
Questions
Does GearUP Booster actually lower ping?
Sometimes. It helps most when your connection takes a poor route to the game server, such as playing on servers in another region. Reviewers saw drops like 110 ms to 68 ms on distant servers, but little or no change on routes that were already direct.
How much does GearUP Booster cost?
About $9.99 for one month, with lower monthly prices on quarterly and annual plans; prices vary by region. There is a 3-day free trial with no credit card.
Does GearUP work on PS5 and Xbox?
Yes, through a PC or GearUP's router option (Router Membership, about $9.99 a month), which boosts the whole household.
Is GearUP a VPN?
Not in the privacy sense. It routes game traffic through its own network to find a faster path to the server, rather than hiding your activity.
