Is T-Mobile 5G Home Internet down? Outage map and network status

T-Mobile doesn't publish an outage map, so checking takes a few more steps. Here's how to tell an outage from a weak signal or a stuck gateway, and what to ask for afterwards.

In brief

Open the T-Life app for outage notices and check the signal bars on your gateway.

No signal, and no service on your T-Mobile phone

It's likely an outage.

Signal is there

Restart the gateway and run the T-Life troubleshooter.

How to check if T-Mobile is down

  1. Open T-Life. T-Mobile says the app has the latest information on network outages. Check for notifications and run the troubleshooter.
  2. Check the gateway's signal. Look at the bars on the gateway or in T-Life. Fewer than two bars points to a signal or network problem.
  3. Check a T-Mobile phone. If a T-Mobile phone at home also has no data, the cell site is likely down.
  4. Check Downdetector. Because T-Mobile has no public outage map, a jump in reports there is often the quickest sign of a wider outage.

If there's no outage

Turn the gateway off for a few seconds and back on, then wait for the signal to settle. If it's online but slow, the cause is usually congestion, placement or Wi-Fi: see why T-Mobile Home Internet is slow. If one device can't connect but others can, it's a Wi-Fi problem. Still down? Call T-Mobile Home Internet support at 1-800-937-8997 or dial 611 from a T-Mobile phone.

Can you get a credit?

T-Mobile doesn't have a published outage credit policy for Home Internet. After a long outage, contact T-Mobile with the dates and ask for a bill adjustment; if you get one, it shows up as a credit on your bill. After large outages T-Mobile has sometimes offered credits on its own.

Getting online during an outage

A T-Mobile outage usually takes out your T-Mobile phone's data too, so a phone hotspot on the same network won't help. A second connection on a different network will: see the best backup internet for home, or T-Mobile vs. Verizon backup internet. If outages keep happening, read our T-Mobile Home Internet review and compare what else reaches your address.

Backup internet for the next outage

Pick a backup on a different network from T-Mobile, so one outage doesn't take out both.

Questions

Does T-Mobile have a 5G outage map?

No public one. Check the T-Life app for outage notifications or T-Mobile's Network Outages support page (sign-in required), look at the signal bars on your gateway, and check Downdetector's live map for a jump in reports nearby.

How do I know if T-Mobile Home Internet is down?

If the gateway has little or no signal and a T-Mobile phone at home has no data either, the local network is likely down. If the gateway has a good signal but nothing loads, restart it and run the T-Life troubleshooter.

Does T-Mobile give credits for Home Internet outages?

There's no published policy. Ask T-Mobile for a bill adjustment after a long outage; if approved, it appears as a credit on your bill.
