LG TV and soundbar bundles: what you save and which to pick

LG takes extra money off when you buy a matching soundbar with your TV. Here's how the bundles work and how to set one up.

Is a bundle worth it?

Buy the bundle if you were going to buy a soundbar in the next few months anyway. The bundle discount comes on top of the TV's sale price, so it usually beats buying each separately.

Skip it if your TV is in a small bedroom, or if you already own a soundbar or receiver that has an HDMI eARC port. Any modern soundbar works with an LG TV; the matching LG models add a few extras, covered below.

What a matching LG soundbar adds

Check which TVs and soundbars support these features on LG's WOW Synergy page before you buy, since not every pairing does. To turn on WOW Orchestra, open the TV's Sound Out settings, choose to use external speakers with TV speakers, and pick WOW Orchestra. Read our WOW Orchestra guide for settings and fixes.

• WOW Orchestra: on compatible models, the TV's speakers play together with the soundbar instead of muting. LG says it widens the soundstage, with the TV speakers helping carry dialogue. Some owners on Reddit and the What Hi-Fi? forum prefer the soundbar on its own, so try it both ways.
• WOW Interface: the soundbar's sound modes and settings appear on the TV screen, controlled with the LG remote.
• WOWCAST: some soundbars connect to the TV wirelessly with an LG WOWCAST adapter instead of an HDMI cable.
• One remote: the TV remote controls the soundbar's power and volume through SIMPLINK, LG's name for HDMI-CEC.

Soundbar or Sound Suite?

A single soundbar sits under the TV. The 3.1.1-channel models, like the LG S70TY, add a dedicated center speaker for dialogue and an upward-firing speaker for Dolby Atmos height effects. That's enough for most living rooms.

Sound Suite uses separate speakers that you place around the room. It costs more and takes more setup, but gives you surround sound from behind the couch. It suits a large or dedicated TV room.

Which LG soundbar for which TV

Match the soundbar's width to the TV so it doesn't overhang: most 3.1-channel LG soundbars suit 55 to 65-inch TVs. For a 77-inch or larger OLED, look at LG's wider flagship models or Sound Suite. If the TV sits on its stand, check the soundbar's height so it doesn't block the bottom of the screen or the IR sensor.

For dialogue, a dedicated center channel matters more than Atmos height speakers. For movies in a large room, a model with a wireless subwoofer and rear speakers gives a bigger difference than a premium single bar.

Buying the bundle at LG vs. a retailer

The bundle discount only applies on LG.com. Amazon and Best Buy sometimes discount the same soundbar separately, so add the TV and soundbar prices from each store and compare the total. LG.com also includes free delivery, and LG Appreciation Program members get at least 10% off on top of LG's sale prices.

How to connect a soundbar to an LG TV

Use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable if you have a 4K 120 Hz console; see our HDMI 2.1 cable guide. If sound drops out, turn off the TV's own speakers in the Sound Out menu and restart both devices.

1. Plug an HDMI cable into the soundbar's HDMI eARC port and the TV's port labeled eARC or ARC.
2. On the TV, open Settings, then Sound, then Sound Out, and choose the HDMI (ARC) device.
3. Turn on SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) in the TV's settings so the TV remote controls the volume.
4. Connect the soundbar to Wi-Fi in the LG ThinQ app if you want app control and updates.
5. Plug streaming boxes and consoles into the TV, not the soundbar, so sound passes through eARC.

Mounting the TV and soundbar

Common setup problems

If the soundbar has no sound, check that the TV's Sound Out is set to HDMI (ARC), not the TV speakers, and that the cable is in the eARC port on both devices. If the TV remote won't change the volume, turn on SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) in the TV's settings, then turn both devices off and on.

Lip-sync delay usually comes from a streaming box plugged into the soundbar instead of the TV. Move it to the TV, or adjust AV sync in the soundbar's settings. If Dolby Atmos doesn't show, set the TV's digital audio output to Auto or Pass Through and confirm the app and title support Atmos.

When to skip LG's bundle

If your TV is a different brand, or you want a soundbar from Sonos, Samsung or Bose, buy them separately; the bundle discount only applies to matching LG pairs. Sonos users can use the TV's eARC port in the same way. A bundle also doesn't help if you're buying the TV for a bedroom where TV speakers are enough.
