The short answer

Most people pay about $150 to $350 to have a TV professionally mounted on drywall. HomeAdvisor puts the average at $252. Best Buy's Geek Squad charges $179.99 for basic mounting of a TV up to 90 inches, or $269.99 with wire concealment. Brick, stone or above-fireplace jobs cost more. If you're comfortable finding studs and using a drill, a DIY mount costs $30 to $100 plus about two hours.

The picks

Best tilt mount for most TVs

Sanus Advanced Tilt 4D

Tilt mount · fits most 42 to 90-inch TVs · low profile

Tilts down when the TV hangs above eye level, which cuts glare, and sits close to the wall.

Worth knowing: Check the VESA pattern and weight limit for your TV before you buy.

Best full-motion mount

Echogear full-motion mount (EGLF2)

Full motion · fits most 42 to 90-inch TVs · dual studs

Pulls out and swivels, so a TV in a corner or open-plan room can face the couch or the kitchen.

Worth knowing: Needs two studs; heavier and harder to level than a tilt mount.

Stud finder

Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210

Multi-sensor stud finder · shows stud width

Shows the full width of each stud with a row of lights, so you can center your lag bolts.

Worth knowing: Confirm with a small test hole before you drill the final holes.

TV mounting cost at a glance

Prices are from Best Buy's listings, LG.com and published cost surveys from HomeAdvisor and Airtasker, as of October 2026. Local prices vary, especially in large metro areas.

What raises the price

  • TV size: TVs over about 65 inches often need two installers. Geek Squad charges $329.99 for basic mounting of TVs 91 inches and up.
  • Wall type: Drywall over wood studs is the standard job. Best Buy adds $129.99 for brick, concrete, stone or above a fireplace.
  • Hiding the cables: Routing video cables inside the wall typically adds $75 to $150 with an independent installer. Power cords can't legally run inside the wall unless you use an in-wall power kit.
  • Mount type: Fixed mounts run about $15 to $50, tilt mounts $30 to $100, and full-motion mounts cost more and take longer to install.
  • Extras: Mounting a soundbar, removing an old mount or patching holes usually adds a small fee each.

Geek Squad vs. TaskRabbit vs. a local handyman

Geek Squad is the most predictable: fixed prices, a warranty on the work, and booking at checkout when you buy the TV. It usually costs more than an independent installer, and the mount is extra unless you buy it from Best Buy.

On TaskRabbit, Taskers set their own rates and you see them before you book. It can be cheaper than Geek Squad for a simple drywall job, and you can read reviews for each installer. Ask in advance whether they bring the anchors and hardware for your wall type.

A local handyman or AV installer is often the best value for harder jobs: brick, stone, above a fireplace, or a full in-wall power kit. Get two quotes and ask whether the price includes the mount.

LG's free wall mounting offer (through Nov 1)

Through November 1, 2026, LG.com includes free wall mounting or stand setup with select LG TVs. If you're already buying an LG TV, check whether your model qualifies before booking a separate installer. The offer covers installation, so check whether a mount is included or sold separately.

LG's main Black Friday prices are still to come, so compare the TV's price now with the deals on our LG Black Friday page before you decide. Members of the LG Appreciation Program also get free installation on some appliances.

Should you mount it yourself?

A TV up to about 55 inches on a drywall wall is a reasonable DIY job if you can find studs and use a drill. Bigger TVs are mostly a two-person lift. Hire a pro for brick or stone, above a fireplace, or if you want cables hidden in the wall.

  1. Choose a mount that matches your TV's VESA pattern (on the back of the TV) and is rated above its weight.
  2. Find and mark the studs; most mounts need two.
  3. Hold the mount level and mark the holes. Drill pilot holes.
  4. Fasten the wall plate with the lag bolts supplied, then attach the brackets to the TV.
  5. Lift the TV onto the plate with a second person and lock it in place.

Plan the cables before you drill

Decide where the streaming box, game console and soundbar will go first. An HDMI cable that's too short is the most common reason people re-drill. For a 4K 120 Hz console or a soundbar using eARC, use a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.

If you stream on the TV's built-in apps, check the Wi-Fi signal where the TV will hang. A TV on an outside wall far from the router can buffer; a streaming device or Ethernet cable can help.
