The best Wi-Fi security cameras of 2026
Which Wi-Fi camera to buy for indoors, outdoors or no monthly fee, and the upload speed your internet plan needs to run them.
The Google Nest Cam (wired) is the best Wi-Fi camera for most homes, with sharp HDR video and accurate alerts. To avoid a monthly fee, get the eufy Indoor Cam S350, which stores video locally. On a budget, the Wyze Cam v4 costs about $36. Check your upload speed first: each 1080p camera uses roughly 1 to 2 Mbps.

The picks
Google Nest Cam (wired)
Easy to set up, with reliable alerts and a few hours of free event history. Tom's Guide and SecurityCamLab both rank it the best Wi-Fi camera.
Longer history needs a Nest Aware subscription. Uses 2.4GHz only.
Google Nest Cam (battery)
Tom's Guide's top outdoor pick. It runs on its battery or a cable, and keeps short clips locally if Wi-Fi drops.
Same subscription question as the wired Nest Cam.
eufy Indoor Cam S350
Two lenses in one indoor camera, with recordings kept on the camera so there is no monthly fee.
Indoor only. For outdoors, eufy's SoloCam S220 has a built-in solar panel and 8GB of storage.
Wyze Cam v4
Sharp enough to see faces, with good color night vision and a small spotlight. It records to a microSD card if you skip Wyze's plan.
Needs an outlet. Free cloud clips are short.
Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro
Follows people across a yard and records locally. The 5GHz radio helps on crowded networks.
Needs an outdoor outlet. Reolink's app is less polished than Nest's.
Ring Spotlight Cam Plus
Works with Echo displays and Ring's optional monitoring. Security.org ranks it the best outdoor wireless camera.
Saving and sharing video needs a Ring Home plan.
Check your Wi-Fi and upload speed first
Cameras upload video, so your plan's upload speed matters more than its download speed. Each 1080p camera uploads roughly 1 to 2 Mbps when it streams or sends clips to the cloud. Cable plans with 10 to 35 Mbps of upload can struggle with four or more always-on cameras; fiber plans have upload to spare. Run our speed test next to where the camera will go: if it shows less than 5 Mbps up, add a mesh node or extender first.
Most cameras use 2.4GHz only. If your router combines both bands under one name, setup can fail; temporarily turn off 5GHz or stand closer to the router while you pair the camera.
Cloud plan or local storage?
Where your video is saved matters as much as the camera itself, and decides whether you pay every month.
- Cloud plans (Ring, Nest, Arlo) keep video safe if the camera is stolen, and add smart alerts. Expect a monthly fee per home.
- Local storage (eufy, Reolink, Wyze with a microSD card) has no fee, but video is lost if the camera is taken or the card fails.

Questions
What is the best security camera without a subscription?
A camera that records locally, such as the eufy Indoor Cam S350 or Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro, keeps full recordings with no monthly fee. Google Nest and Ring cameras need a paid plan to save more than a short history.
Do Wi-Fi security cameras need a subscription?
Not always. Ring, Nest and Arlo charge monthly for longer cloud video history and some smart alerts. Eufy, Reolink and Wyze record to built-in storage or a microSD card, so you can skip the fee.
How much internet speed does a security camera use?
Mostly upload speed. A 1080p camera uploads roughly 1 to 2 Mbps while streaming or recording to the cloud, and a 4K camera several times that. Four or five cameras can fill a cable plan's upload.
Do security cameras work on 5GHz Wi-Fi?
Most only use 2.4GHz, which reaches farther through walls. A few, such as the eufy S350 and Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro, support 5GHz.
Will my cameras work if the internet goes down?
Cameras with local storage keep recording to the card or base station. You won't get alerts or live view until the connection returns.
Are battery cameras worth it?
For places without an outlet, yes. Expect to recharge or swap batteries every few months, and expect a short delay before recording starts compared with a plugged-in camera.
