What your result means

Under 25 Mbps
Fine for one HD stream and browsing; slow for a busy household
25–100 Mbps
HD streaming on a few TVs, video calls and gaming for 1–3 people
100–500 Mbps
4K streaming, large downloads and many devices at once
500 Mbps and up
Big households, frequent large uploads, multiple 4K streams

Ping matters more than speed for gaming and video calls: under 30 ms is excellent, 30–60 ms is fine, and over 100 ms feels laggy. Upload speed matters if you send large files or are often on camera.

Questions

What is a good internet speed?

For most households, 100–300 Mbps download is plenty for 4K streaming, video calls and gaming on several devices. One or two people who mostly browse and stream in HD can do well with 25–100 Mbps.

Why is my speed test lower than my plan?

Usually because of Wi-Fi or the device, not the provider. Test on a computer plugged into the router with an Ethernet cable. If that result is close to your plan, your connection is fine.

How much data does a speed test use?

This test uses roughly 70 MB on a fast connection, less on slower ones. On a phone with limited data, run it on Wi-Fi.

What's the difference between Mbps and MBps?

Mbps is megabits per second, which is how speed tests and providers measure speed. MBps is megabytes per second, which is how downloads often show progress. 1 MBps equals 8 Mbps.

This test measures your connection to Cloudflare's network from your browser. Your provider and city are looked up from your IP address by ipinfo.io; we don't store them or your results. Results vary by device, Wi-Fi and time of day. Compare with Speedtest by Ookla or your provider's own test for a second opinion.
