Our verdict

Straight Talk is a Verizon-owned prepaid brand sold mainly through Walmart, and its home internet runs on Verizon's 5G and 4G LTE network. There's one plan: $45 per 30 days with unlimited data, or $35 if you have a Straight Talk unlimited phone plan. The router is a one-time purchase, listed at $69.99.

Speeds depend on what your address gets. Straight Talk quotes 20–200 Mbps down and 3–15 up on 5G, and 20–50 down with 3–6 up where only 4G LTE reaches. The availability checker tells you which before you buy. Walmart buyers rate the router 3.8 out of 5 from about 2,900 ratings, but the reviews are split: 64% five stars and 23% one star, which usually comes down to the signal at the address.

It's a reasonable pick if you already use Straight Talk for your phone. Otherwise its Verizon-network siblings are the better buys: Tracfone Home Internet has a 3-year price guarantee and Total Wireless is $35 next to its own phone plans. T-Mobile 5G Home at $50 includes the gateway. See the best prepaid internet for the full comparison.

Frequently asked

How much is Straight Talk Home Internet?

$45 per 30 days, or $35 with a Straight Talk Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Unlimited phone plan. The router is a separate one-time purchase, listed at $69.99 on Straight Talk's site.

What network does Straight Talk Home Internet use?

Verizon's 5G and 4G LTE network. Straight Talk is a Verizon brand.

How fast is Straight Talk Home Internet?

20–200 Mbps down and 3–15 Mbps up on 5G. Addresses with only 4G LTE coverage get 20–50 Mbps down and 3–6 Mbps up. The address check tells you which you'll get.

Does Straight Talk Home Internet have a data cap?

No. The plan includes unlimited data.

Do I need a Straight Talk phone plan?

No. Anyone can sign up, but the $10/mo discount needs a Straight Talk unlimited phone plan on the same account.

Where can I buy Straight Talk Home Internet?

On StraightTalk.com, Walmart.com and in select Walmart stores. Check your address first; after a successful check your spot is reserved for 30 days.

Can I use Lifeline with Straight Talk Home Internet?

Yes. Lifeline's discount (up to $30/mo, or up to $75 on Tribal lands for the broadband benefit) can be applied once your home internet service is active.

Is Straight Talk Home Internet good for gaming?

For casual online games, usually yes on a strong 5G signal. Verizon-network prepaid home internet typically runs about 43–85 ms of latency, higher than cable or fiber, and speeds can drop when the network is busy. Competitive players are better off on a wired connection.

Is there a Straight Talk Home Internet coverage map?

Not a map you can rely on for home internet. Straight Talk checks availability by street address, because neighboring addresses can get different results. Run the address check before you buy the router.

How does billing work?

The plan is prepaid in 30-day periods, not calendar months. Turn on auto-pay or refill before the period ends; if service lapses you may need to reactivate.

Speeds and reliability in practice

Straight Talk sells one plan, but what you get depends on your address. On 5G it quotes 20–200 Mbps down and 3–15 up; where only 4G LTE reaches, 20–50 down and 3–6 up. The address check tells you which you'll get before you buy the router.

Owners on Reddit report anything from about 100 Mbps to over 200 Mbps on a good 5G signal, enough for a family to stream at once. The weak spots are uploads, latency for gaming, and busy-hour slowdowns, since prepaid traffic can be slowed behind Verizon's own customers. Walmart's 3.8-star average hides a split: most buyers are happy, and nearly a quarter gave one star, mostly where the signal was poor.

Before you buy

  • Run the address check and note whether it says 5G or 4G LTE. On LTE, think twice: 20–50 Mbps is DSL territory.
  • Check the return policy where you buy the router. The Walmart listing we saw offered 90-day returns.
  • Set up auto-pay. Service runs in 30-day periods, and a lapse can mean reactivating.

Who Straight Talk Home Internet is for

  • Straight Talk phone customers, at $35 per 30 days with unlimited data.
  • Walmart shoppers who want to pay cash or avoid a credit check.
  • Rural homes with a strong Verizon 5G signal and no cable or fiber.
  • Households on Lifeline, which can be applied to the plan.

Who should skip it

  • Addresses that only get 4G LTE.
  • Gamers and heavy uploaders.
  • Anyone who wants a price guarantee; Straight Talk offers none.
