Our verdict

Viasat Business sells four plans, all up to 100 Mbps: Business Backup Choice with 50 GB for $49.99/mo, Business Choice with 300 GB for $99.99, Business Choice Unlimited for $199.99, and Business Added Choice, the same unlimited plan with no contract, for $214.99. Unlike most satellite plans, these are not introductory prices.

Real speeds are lower than the headline. Viasat's own labels list typical downloads of 51–78 Mbps, uploads of 3–4 Mbps and latency of about 630–665 ms. Email, card terminals and cloud apps work, but video calls lag and large uploads are slow. Unlimited Office Hours data covers browsing, email, VPN and business apps from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. without touching your allowance.

Add $15/mo for equipment and $3.49/mo in fees, and the 300 GB plan is about $118/mo. Starlink Business starts at $55/mo with far lower latency. Viasat makes sense mainly as backup or where Starlink can't see enough sky. Starlink Business review

Viasat Business plans and who they suit

Office Hours data

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, web browsing, email, VPN, file transfers, network storage and calls do not count against your high-speed data. Streaming video and gaming are excluded, and it is not available on the backup plan. Viasat may contact heavy users above 2 TB of Office Hours use a month.

Unlimited plans

The two unlimited plans may be slowed behind other customers at busy times if your use goes above what Viasat expects of a typical business, about 1,000 GB a month.

Who it suits

Rural offices, farms and shops that need a connection where cable, fiber and 5G don't reach, or a backup line behind a wired service. For failover setups, see business internet failover.

Frequently asked

How much does Viasat Business cost?

$49.99/mo for the 50 GB backup plan, $99.99 for 300 GB, $199.99 for unlimited and $214.99 for unlimited with no contract. Add $15/mo for equipment and a $3.49/mo fee.

What is Viasat Office Hours?

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, business traffic such as browsing, email, VPN and file transfers does not use your high-speed data. Video streaming and gaming are excluded, and the backup plan does not include it.

How fast is Viasat Business?

Plans are up to 100 Mbps (50 Mbps on backup), but Viasat lists typical speeds of 51–78 Mbps down and 3–4 Mbps up, with latency around 630–665 ms.

Is there a contract?

Most plans need a 12-month term with a $20 fee for each month left if you leave early. Business Added Choice is month-to-month.

Is Viasat Business better than Starlink Business?

For most sites, no. Starlink Business starts at $55/mo with much lower latency. Viasat can work as a backup line or where Starlink is blocked by trees.

Is Viasat Business available at my business?

Satellite reaches almost any address with a clear view of the sky, but plans and wait times vary by area. Check every provider at your address to see whether a wired or 5G option is also there.

Do I need backup internet with Viasat Business?

Heavy storms can interrupt satellite service. If your business can't go offline, a cheap 5G line such as T-Mobile Business Internet Backup covers outages. See our business failover guide.

Viasat Business vs. Starlink Business: which is better?

Starlink is faster with much lower latency, so video calls and cloud apps work far better. Viasat can make sense where Starlink has a waitlist or for light use. Read our Starlink Business review.
