Rent or buy the dish? Three-year cost

PlanRent ($10/mo)Buy ($349)Difference
Residential 100 Mbps$2,340$2,329$11
Residential 200 Mbps$3,420$3,409$11
Residential Max$5,040$5,029$11
36 months of service plus hardware, before taxes and installation. Buying only pulls ahead after about 35 months, so renting is the safer pick unless you're sure you'll keep Starlink for three years or more.

How to get the best price

  1. Enter your exact address on starlink.com. Plans, hardware price and install offers all change by location.
  2. Choose the $10/mo kit rental if it's offered, unless you plan to keep Starlink for more than three years.
  3. Pick 200 Mbps over 100 if you want free installation and more evening speed.
  4. Claim the free Mini from your account after you activate, if you travel.
  5. Test it within 30 days so you can still return it for a full refund.

The fine print

  • The rented kit and the free Mini must be returned if you cancel.
  • If you cancel during the Mini payment plan, the remaining balance is billed.
  • The 100 and 200 Mbps plans get lower priority, so evening speeds can drop in busy areas.
  • There's no price lock: Starlink raised prices in June 2026 and can change them again.
  • The dish draws about 75 to 100 watts, roughly $10 a month in electricity.

Black Friday and holiday deals

Starlink's holiday sales have mostly cut hardware prices, not monthly plans. Last November the Mini dropped to $229; it's already $149 today, the lowest price yet. Expect any Black Friday offer to focus on the Standard Kit or bonus credit rather than a lower monthly rate. We'll update this page when Starlink announces its 2026 offer; see all internet deals in the meantime.

Our Starlink review covers speeds, latency and the catches in detail, and is Starlink worth it? runs the three-year cost.

How it compares

Against the other satellite providers, Starlink is faster with much lower latency; see Starlink vs. HughesNet vs. Viasat and the best satellite internet. If cable, fiber or 5G reaches your address, it's usually cheaper for the same speed.

Questions

What is the best Starlink deal right now?

For most homes, the $0-upfront dish: you rent the Standard Kit for $10/mo instead of paying $349, where it's offered. Residential 200 Mbps ($85/mo) adds free installation, and any Residential plan can add a free Starlink Mini rental for travel.

Is there a cheaper way to get Starlink?

Yes. Choose the 100 Mbps plan at $55/mo if it's offered at your address, rent the kit instead of buying it, and watch for regional half-off offers. For travel only, the Starlink Mini is $149 to own with Roam from $55/mo.

How much is Starlink at Costco?

Costco and other stores sell the hardware kit only; service is always billed by Starlink at the same monthly price. Compare the store price with starlink.com first, where many addresses get the dish for $0 upfront.

What is the $50 Starlink plan?

That was Residential 100 Mbps before June 18, 2026. It's now $55/mo for speeds up to 100 Mbps, and only offered in some areas.

Does Starlink have a senior discount?

No. Starlink doesn't offer a senior or low-income discount. See internet discounts for seniors for providers that do.

Can I try Starlink before committing?

Yes. Every plan has a 30-day trial: return everything within 30 days for a full refund. There's no contract after that.

Is there a Starlink promo code?

No. Starlink doesn't use promo codes. The closest thing is a referral link from a current customer, which gets you both $100 in cash or credit after two billing cycles.

Can existing Starlink customers get a deal?

Yes, but not the new-customer ones. You can refer friends for $100 each, claim a free Mini rental for travel, switch to a cheaper tier if it's offered, or pause with Standby Mode for $10/mo instead of cancelling.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy the Starlink dish?

Renting at $10/mo costs about the same as buying for $349 over three years, and you can return the dish if you cancel. Buying only saves money if you keep Starlink longer than about 35 months.

What is the cheapest Starlink plan?

Residential 100 Mbps and Roam 100 GB are both $55/mo. Residential 100 Mbps has unlimited data but is only offered in some areas; Roam 100 GB slows down after 100 GB but works anywhere in the US and Canada.

Does Starlink have Black Friday deals?

Usually on hardware. Last year the Mini dropped to $229 for Black Friday; it's already $149 now. We'll update this page when the 2026 offer is announced.
