The short answer

Bluehost's shared hosting starts at $3.99/mo for Starter on a 3-year term (about $144 up front). It renews at $9.99/mo on a 3-year term, $11.99 on 1 year and $15.99 month to month. Business is $6.99, renewing at $13.99. That's among the lower renewals for a big-name host; our Bluehost review covers the rest.

If you cancel within 30 days, Bluehost refunds hosting but keeps the cost of the free domain. Many owners register the domain at Namecheap instead, so it stays separate from the host.

How to pay less

  1. Use the 3-year term if you know the site will last.
  2. Untick add-ons you don't need yet at checkout.
  3. Buy in the holiday sale if you need more than one product; the discount rises with each eligible item.
  4. Check the Renewal Center a month before renewal and pick a 3-year renewal over 1-year or monthly.
