The short answer

Bluehost is the cheapest of the three over time (Starter renews at $9.99/mo). HostGator gives the most sites per dollar on its first term. SiteGround renews far higher ($17.99/mo for one site, $29.99 for unlimited) but includes daily backups, caching and staging. Pick SiteGround if those save you time or money; otherwise Bluehost is the better value.

SiteGround's higher price buys managed WordPress features that cost extra elsewhere. If you would otherwise pay for backups and a staging tool, part of the gap closes. If you run one simple site, it rarely does.

Who each suits

  • SiteGround: WordPress businesses that want daily backups, staging and strong support, and will pay $18 to $30 a month for them.
  • Bluehost: beginners and small businesses who want low renewals and guided WordPress setup. See Bluehost plans.
  • HostGator: owners of several small sites who want cPanel and the cheapest first term. See HostGator plans.

Other options

Hostinger is cheaper up front on a 4-year term. Namecheap has the lowest renewals. If you want SiteGround-style performance without the renewal jump, Cloudways keeps the same price every month.
