Spectrum Business vs. AT&T Business Fiber: cable or fiber?
Both sell business internet with no annual contract and similar starting prices. AT&T runs on fiber with equal upload and download speeds. Spectrum runs on cable, reaches more addresses since buying Cox, and gives internet away with four mobile lines. Here's how they compare in the first year and after.
Pick AT&T Business Fiber if it reaches your building. You get symmetrical speeds, 5G backup built in on 1 Gig and faster, and bill credits for outages, from $60 a month for 300 Mbps. Pick Spectrum Business if AT&T fiber isn't available, if you'll add four Spectrum Business Mobile lines and get internet free, or if you need 500 Mbps for $65 in the first year. Ask Spectrum for the standard rate after month 12 before you sign.
What you pay in the first year
AT&T lists one price per speed with AutoPay and paperless billing, and takes $20 to $50 a month off with an eligible AT&T Business wireless plan. Spectrum's prices are promotional for 12 months, then move to a standard rate that Spectrum doesn't publish on its plan pages. Bundling Spectrum Business phone or mobile saves up to $25 a month and adds a 3-year price guarantee.
Internet only, before taxes and fees, from AT&T Business and Spectrum Business plan pages, checked Oct 2026. AT&T prices need AutoPay and paperless billing; the wireless discount needs an eligible AT&T Business wireless line and is credited over 36 months. AT&T also offers reward cards of $300 to $500 by speed, with redemption required. Spectrum prices are promotional for 12 months. Free Spectrum internet needs four Spectrum Business Mobile lines, billed separately.
Where AT&T wins
Uploads and backup. Every AT&T Business Fiber plan uploads as fast as it downloads, which matters for video calls, cloud backups and large files. On 1 Gig and faster, the gateway switches to 5G if the fiber line goes down, at no extra cost; it needs power, so pair it with a UPS. The AT&T Guarantee credits your bill for fiber outages of 20 minutes or more, and equipment and ActiveArmor security are included.
The AT&T Guarantee is not an uptime SLA. If you need a contractual guarantee, AT&T sells Dedicated Internet with a 100% uptime commitment, by quote. Static IPs on Business Fiber are an add-on in blocks of 8 to 128 addresses, with three reserved in each block, so a block of 8 gives you 5 usable.
Where Spectrum wins
Reach and the mobile bundle. Since Charter completed its purchase of Cox on Aug 20, 2026, Spectrum Business covers 45 states, so it's more likely to serve a given address than AT&T fiber. Add four Spectrum Business Mobile lines and the internet is free. Internet 500 at $65 costs less than AT&T's 500 Mbps plan at $100 for the first year, installation is free, and there are no data caps.
The tradeoffs are cable uploads, which trail fiber, and the price step-up after 12 months. Invincible WiFi adds 5G backup and battery power and is included on 2 Gig where it's sold. On other plans, Wireless Internet Backup keeps up to 4 devices online at up to 10 Mbps, and needs a Spectrum static IP or Business WiFi subscription. See static IPs and SLAs if you're not sure you need either.
Former Cox and Quantum Fiber customers
- →Cox Business customers: current agreements, prices and equipment carry on for now. Ask your account rep in writing which Spectrum plan you'll move to and when.
- →Quantum Fiber business customers: AT&T bought Quantum Fiber on Feb 2, 2026, and is moving customers to AT&T Fiber. Ask which plan and price you'll get, and compare it with the table above.
- →Either way, confirm that static IPs and phone numbers will carry over before any migration date.
Before you sign

Which should you get?
Choose AT&T Business Fiber if it reaches you and you upload a lot, run several video calls at once, or want backup built into the gateway. Choose Spectrum Business if AT&T fiber isn't at your address, if you'll move your phones to Spectrum Business Mobile, or if you want the lowest first-year price for 500 Mbps. If downtime costs you sales, add a second provider such as T-Mobile Small Business Internet Backup at $20 a month; our business failover guide covers the setup. Comparing a 5G option too? Questions
Is Spectrum Business cheaper than AT&T Business Fiber?
In the first year, it depends on the speed. AT&T 300 Mbps is $60 a month and Spectrum Internet 500 is $65 on promotional pricing. At 1 Gig, Spectrum is $115 and AT&T is $140, or $90 with an eligible AT&T Business wireless plan. Spectrum promo prices last 12 months, then standard rates apply. Spectrum internet is free if you add four Spectrum Business Mobile lines.
Which has faster uploads?
AT&T Business Fiber. Every plan is symmetrical, so 300 Mbps down means 300 Mbps up. Spectrum Business runs on cable, where uploads are slower than downloads.
Do either include backup internet?
AT&T builds 5G backup into the gateway on 1 Gig and faster plans; managed backup with a battery is an add-on for 300 and 500 Mbps. Spectrum includes Invincible WiFi, with 5G backup and battery power, on 2 Gig where available. Its Wireless Internet Backup add-on keeps up to 4 devices online at up to 10 Mbps.
Does either have an uptime SLA?
Not on these plans. The AT&T Guarantee gives bill credits for fiber outages of 20 minutes or more, and AT&T Dedicated Internet carries a 100% uptime guarantee by quote. Spectrum keeps its strongest SLAs for its enterprise products.
Do I need a contract?
No. AT&T Business Fiber has no annual contract. Spectrum Business plans are month-to-month with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
