The short answer

In My Verizon, go to Account settings and profile, select Disconnect, then type "disconnect" in the chat. You can also call 1-800-VERIZON (1-800-837-4966). Current Fios and 5G Home plans are month to month, so there is no cancellation fee. If your Verizon phone lines get a home internet discount, it ends too. Return the router or 5G gateway using the instructions Verizon sends.

5G Home: think before you cancel to re-add. Verizon limits 5G Home signups per tower, and customers report being unable to get service back after canceling because the local tower was full. If you're only changing plans, ask Verizon to switch you instead.

Return the equipment

Return the Fios router, any TV boxes, or the 5G Home gateway. Verizon tells you how when you cancel, usually a prepaid return kit or label. Keep the tracking number until your final bill shows no equipment charge.

Want to stay but pay less?

Ask the retention agent for the current new-customer price before you agree to cancel. See how to negotiate your internet bill, and which Fios deals existing customers can get.

Switching instead?

Compare T-Mobile 5G Home, Verizon 5G Home and the cheapest 5G home internet. They are no-contract and self-install, so you can test one before you cancel.
