Most "military discount" and "teacher discount" offers from internet companies apply to phone plans. Here is which providers discount the home internet bill itself.

In brief

Verizon Fios is the only large wired provider with a standing home-internet discount for military, first responders, nurses and teachers. Xfinity and Verizon have student pricing. AT&T and T-Mobile's group discounts cover phone plans only, and Spectrum, Cox, Optimum and Frontier have none tied to your job.

Military and veterans

Verizon Fios covers active duty, retirees, veterans, current and former Guard and Reserve, and Gold Star families. Verizon doesn't list the discount amount; it shows at checkout once you're verified. Military members and veterans can also get $5/mo off Fios Digital Voice or Home Device Advisor tech support. Fios plans and prices. You verify once through ID.me and the credit applies monthly; the amount depends on your speed tier. Since Sept 3, 2026, new Fios plans start at $30/mo before the discount (current Fios offers).

AT&T and T-Mobile both run military pricing, but on wireless. If you already use either for your phone, the bigger home-internet saving is the phone-plan bundle discount, which any customer can get.

Veterans receiving a VA pension can qualify for low-cost plans such as Optimum Advantage (about $15/mo) or Xfinity Internet Essentials. These are benefit-based; see our low-income internet guide.

Teachers, nurses and first responders

Verizon Fios groups teachers (K–12 and post-secondary), nurses and first responders with military under its Those Who Serve discounts: one per account, not combinable with an employer discount. AT&T Appreciation Savings covers the same groups plus physicians, on unlimited phone plans only.

Students

Xfinity verifies college enrollment and prices its student plans below standard rates for the first year, with autopay and paperless billing required. Verizon Fios offers a smaller student credit. Spectrum markets student plans, but the prices match its standard first-year rates.

Off-campus students on a lease should check the price after month 12 before signing; see price locks compared.

Moving or deploying

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act lets servicemembers cancel internet, TV and phone contracts without early-termination fees when orders move them for 90 days or more to an area the provider does not serve. Expect to send a copy of your orders. Spectrum also runs a Military Leave Program that pauses service during deployment.
