gFiber (formerly Google Fiber) isn't the cheapest fiber, but its prices don't move. Here's what you pay and when it's the better deal.

The short answer

gFiber costs $70/mo for Core 1 Gig, $100 for Home 3 Gig and $150 for Edge 8 Gig, plus taxes and fees. Installation, Wi-Fi equipment and unlimited data are included, there's no contract, and the 1 Gig price has been the same since 2012. It's worth it if you want a price that won't rise or need multi-gig speeds.

In upgraded markets, gFiber sells Core 3 Gig for $70 and Home 5 Gig for $100 instead. All plans are symmetrical, with the same upload and download speed.

What costs extra

  • Taxes and fees. Plan prices are before taxes and local fees.
  • Battery backup. $10/mo on Home 3 Gig; included on Edge 8 Gig.
  • Home phone. $20/mo.
  • Unreturned equipment. Return the router and extenders within 60 days of canceling to avoid a replacement fee.

At 1 Gig, gFiber and AT&T Fiber cost the same before discounts. AT&T can come out cheaper with its wireless bundle discount; gFiber includes a mesh extender and has a longer record of not raising prices. At multi-gig speeds, gFiber's $100 for 3 Gig (or 5 Gig in upgraded markets) is one of the lower prices available.

When gFiber is worth it

  • You want a price that won't jump after a year.
  • You work from home or upload large files, where symmetrical speeds help.
  • You want multi-gig speeds without paying $150 or more.
  • You'd rather not pay extra for mesh Wi-Fi.

When it isn't

If 300 or 500 Mbps is enough for your household, a cheaper tier from another provider will cost less, and gFiber's smallest plan in most markets is 1 Gig. gFiber is also only available in specific metros. It's combining with Astound Broadband in a deal expected to close in late 2026; see who owns your ISP.
