How to cancel Xfinity internet
You can't cancel Xfinity online or by chat. Here's how to do it by phone, callback or in a store, what it costs, and how to return the equipment without a surprise charge.
Call 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489) and say "cancel service", schedule a callback at xfinity.com/cancel, or go to an Xfinity Store. Plans sold since April 2025 have no annual contract, so there is no cancellation fee. Charges are prorated to your disconnect day. Return the gateway at an Xfinity Store or The UPS Store and keep the receipt.
Before you cancel: a checklist
- Line up your new service. Schedule its install or delivery first, so you're never without internet.
- Check for a contract. Look in the Xfinity app under your plan for a term end date.
- Sign in to Xfinity Email on the website (not just an app) before you cancel, for every comcast.net address you want to keep, and move your Xfinity Mobile lines.
- List your equipment. Note each device's serial number from your account so you can match it at return.
- Download recent bills and screenshot your balance. You may need them if a charge is disputed later.
- Pick a disconnect date a day or two after your new service starts.
What cancelling costs
How to cancel
- Book your new service first and pick an Xfinity disconnect date after it starts. See what reaches your address.
- Move Xfinity Mobile lines first. Xfinity Mobile requires Xfinity Internet, so port those numbers to your new carrier before you cancel.
- Call 1-800-934-6489 and say "cancel service", or request a callback at xfinity.com/cancel. Have your account number and PIN ready.
- Decline or accept the retention offer. If a lower price would keep you, get the price, how long it lasts and the regular rate after it in writing.
- Get a confirmation number and the disconnect date.
What to say when you call
Keep it short. Agents are trained to offer discounts first, so lead with what you want:
- If they ask why, a short answer works: "I'm switching to another provider."
- If they make an offer and you're interested, ask for the monthly price, how long it lasts, the regular price after it, and whether it adds a contract. Ask for it by email or in the app.
- If you're not interested, say "No thanks, please go ahead and cancel." You may need to say it twice.
- Write down the agent's name, the date and time, and the confirmation number.
Moving? You may not need to cancel
If Xfinity serves your new address, you can transfer service instead of canceling, and your current price guarantee usually moves with you. Use Xfinity's moving option in the app or call. If Xfinity doesn't serve the new address, cancel as above and set the disconnect date for your move-out day. See how to sign up for internet at the new place.
Return the equipment
Return the gateway, any TV boxes, remotes and power cords. You can drop them at an Xfinity Store, or create a prepaid label in Xfinity's Digital Return Center and take the box to The UPS Store. Check each device's serial number against the list on your account, and keep the receipt or tracking number until your final bill shows no equipment balance. Your final bill
| What to expect | Details |
|---|---|
| Proration | Charges stop on your disconnect day; you're billed for the days you had service |
| Two bills | You may get your regular bill and then a separate final bill |
| Equipment charges | Added if a device isn't returned or doesn't match your account |
| Credits or refunds | Any credit balance should be refunded after the final bill closes |
| Autopay | Leave it on until the final bill is paid, then remove your card or bank account |
Check the final bill line by line. If something is wrong, call with your confirmation number and receipts. Our guide to reading your internet bill explains each line.
Xfinity Mobile, TV, home phone and email
- Xfinity Mobile: it requires Xfinity Internet, so port your numbers to a new carrier first. Don't cancel the lines; transferring the number closes them. See eSIM if you're switching phones too.
- TV: canceling internet doesn't cancel TV automatically. Say exactly which services to cancel, and return every TV box and remote.
- Home phone: to keep the number, port it to a new provider before you cancel, or it can be lost.
- Comcast email: you can keep your comcast.net address after you cancel, but only if you signed in on the Xfinity Email website in the 90 days before your disconnect date. After that, sign in at least once every nine months or it can be closed. The same rule applies to each secondary address. You keep your address book and settings, but can't add new addresses or see Xfinity Voice voicemail. Comcast email is also moving to Yahoo Mail; Xfinity will tell you when. More in keeping your Comcast email.
- Streaming perks: anything included with your plan, such as Peacock, may end when service does.
After you cancel: what happens when
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Cancel day | Save the confirmation number; unplug and pack the equipment |
| Within a few days | Return equipment at an Xfinity Store or The UPS Store; keep the receipt |
| 1–2 billing cycles | Final bill arrives; check for equipment or extra charges |
| 30–60 days | Confirm a $0 balance and any refund; remove saved payment methods |
| Up to 90 days | Watch your mail and email for any unexpected notices |

Questions
What number do I call to cancel Xfinity?

Can I cancel Xfinity online?
No. Home internet, TV and home phone can only be cancelled by phone, by scheduled callback or in a store. Chat will not disconnect service.
Does Xfinity charge a cancellation fee?
Not on current plans. Since April 2025 the main internet plans have a 5-year price guarantee and no annual contract. Older plans and TV bundles with a term agreement can still have an early termination fee.
Does Xfinity prorate the last bill?
Yes. Charges are prorated to the day you disconnect. You may get your regular bill and then a separate final bill.
Where do I return Xfinity equipment?
At an Xfinity Store, or at The UPS Store with a prepaid label from Xfinity's Digital Return Center. Keep the receipt.
Can I cancel Xfinity if I'm moving?
Yes, but if Xfinity serves your new address you can transfer service instead and usually keep your price guarantee. If not, cancel and set the disconnect date to your move-out day.
What happens to my Comcast email if I cancel?
You can keep it if you signed in on the Xfinity Email website in the 90 days before you disconnect, then sign in at least once every nine months. To be safe, export your contacts and move bank, utility and government accounts to another address such as Gmail or Outlook.
How long do I have to return Xfinity equipment?
Return it as soon as you can after the disconnect date and keep the receipt. Equipment that isn't returned can be charged to your final bill.
Will canceling Xfinity internet cancel my TV and phone?
Not automatically. Tell the agent exactly which services to cancel, and port your home phone number first if you want to keep it.
